Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central South Carolina
and East Central Georgia
National Weather Service Columbia SC
1228 PM EST Fri Jan 9 2026

.DISCUSSION...
A couple isolated showers are possible tonight as the next
system nears mainly for western areas. High low level moisture
could also bring more patchy fog into the morning hours before
this dissipates. Isolated to scattered rain chances persist much
of Saturday with the greatest chance and coverage of rain coming
during the late afternoon and into the evening hours as a cold
front begins to near the area. A couple thunderstorms cannot be ruled out
with this activity. Gusty southwesterly winds are expected through
the day as well with gusts up to 25-30 mph possible. The front clears
the area Saturday night with diminishing rain chances and drier
air being ushered in. This sets the stage for another gusty day Sunday
with winds now out of the northwest and minimum RH values between 30-35%.
Lighter winds then move in for the early week with winds flipping back
out of the southwest as dry conditions are expected to continue. The
next rain chance may move in for the mid to late week period.

Fog potential tonight: Patchy fog possible tonight.
