Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
203 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

.DISCUSSION...

An upper level ridge centered over the Great Plains will promote
full-fledged summertime temperatures for the next week, including
widespread highs around 100 by Tuesday. When combined with the
lack of substantial moisture, humidity levels will drive to very
low levels across western Nebraska. The southern panhandle may
reach 15% on Monday, and most areas west of Highway 83 will drop
below 15% on Tuesday. At this time, winds appear light enough to
preclude a serious red flag risk for those days. With that said,
blustery south winds are anticipated again today, especially east
of Highway 83, where gusts will top 30 mph at times. Isolated to
scattered thunderstorms are also possible each evening this
weekend, increasing the risk of lightning starts and fueled by
strong erratic winds in the vicinity of storms.
