Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Northern IL and Northwest IN
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville IL

.DISCUSSION...

...Elevated Fire Weather Risk Near and South of I-80 Into This Evening...

Strong south-southwesterly winds gusting to 35 to 45 mph are
expected to continue through the remainder of the afternoon. While
RH values are and will generally remain at 40% or higher through
this time, the strong winds and dry fuels will continue to result
in an elevated fire danger into this evening.

While the south-southwesterly winds may abate a bit in both frequency
and intensity this evening, at least intermittent gusts to around 40
mph may occur tonight before a band of showers and isolated to widely
scattered thunderstorms moves into the area from the west.

A cold front will then sweep across the area tomorrow morning,
shifting winds to a southwesterly and eventually westerly direction
behind it. These southwesterly to westerly winds are also expected to
generally gust into the 35 to 45 mph range throughout the day, with
locations north of I-80 potentially seeing gusts as high as 50 mph at
times as well. Temperatures will be much cooler tomorrow, so RH values
are expected to be much higher than they were today.

High pressure moving into the area will then bring dry conditions and
lighter winds Friday and Saturday. This will be followed by a period
with multiple rounds of beneficial rain, likely through early to mid
next week.
