Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern North Carolina
National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC
331 AM EST Sun Jan 18 2026

.DISCUSSION...
No fire weather concerns today as ENC remains cloudy with a steady
rain though much of the day. There could be a brief changeover to
a rain/snow mix, and potentially just plain snow across northern
portions of the CWA, but not expecting significant impacts even if
this does occur.

Wetting rain is forecast across ENC today, with widespread amounts
up to around 0.50-1" with locally higher amounts possible. Given
temps through much of today and forecasted rainfall amounts, most
guidance suggests if we do see a changeover to a rain/snow mix or
plain snow it wont accumulate much if at all with a reasonable worst
case scenario being only minor accumulations around Martin, Pitt,
and western Washington counties this afternoon and evening if rain
changes over to snow slightly sooner than currently forecast. Coastal
Plain RHs will fall back to 40-45% on Monday and 20-30% on Tuesday
before rebounding slightly on Wednesday back to 30-40%. Winds will
remain light from Mon onwards (5-10 mph) which should preclude any
increased fire conditions across the area.
